Zhuji Taiping Bridge
Taiping Bridge is the only passage connecting the eastern and western banks of the Puyang River in the urban area. Among the locals of the old city, it has always been called "the Big Bridge" or "the Pontoon Bridge," while "Taiping Bridge" is the formal name or one given later. It is said that the bridge was built by the Zhuji Construction Company in the late 1950s, and its designer was a famously young worker in the history of Zhuji’s construction industry. It is a three-span stone arch bridge, with two concrete piers in the middle, topped by masonry arches. The bridge is about fifty to sixty meters long and roughly ten meters wide—wide enough for two cars to pass each other. At each end of the bridge stand a pair of large stone lions carved from bluestone: one male and one female. The male lion stands on a ball, while the female cradles a cub.
The new bridge was completed and opened to traffic around October 1994.
