Dongyang Mountain Water Curtain Cave

Dongyang Mountain Water Curtain Cave is located 20 kilometers east of Xinchang County, at the foot of Dongyang Mountain. A natural cave opens here, with a waterfall cascading from its entrance. The waterfall is 35 meters high, gushing out forcefully, resembling a hanging curtain that flutters in the wind, shining brilliantly.

At the top of the Water Curtain Cave lies Qian Gong Terrace, a solitary towering rock said to be the place where Zhu Daoyu preached. The area around the Water Curtain Cave features attractions such as Sunset River and Locking Green Bridge. The mountains produce unique stones, commonly known as “stone buns.” Legend has it that these are sacred traces of Master Mo Ke cooking stones into food, with fillings that are both meaty and vegetarian, collectively referred to as “Yu Yu Liang.”

The Water Curtain Cave is 13 meters high, 7 meters deep, and 5 meters wide. At its entrance, a waterfall hangs from a huge boulder atop the mountain, descending dramatically through the air like a beaded curtain, falling into the pool at the cave’s mouth and splashing up jade-like waves. When the mountain breeze blows, the bead curtain flutters, accompanied by the roaring sound of water — a truly majestic sight. Zhu Xi wrote a poem in praise: “When I came to the Water Curtain Valley, the flying spring that brushed my face refreshed my eyes the most; a sheet of water curtain veils the cave’s mouth — who could roll up its curtain hook?”
