Shaolin Village
Xinchang is a CCTV film and television shooting base. Shaolin Village was developed from a mountain bay in the Dafo Temple scenic area into a tourist destination for sightseeing, entertainment, and leisure based on the filming of "The Legend of the Condor Heroes." The three characters for "Shaolin Village" are handwritten by Mr. Jin Yong.
Niujia Village; after entering through the entrance and walking along a section of stone path, you will arrive at "Niujia Village." At the village entrance there is a bronze statue of the Condor Heroes; the village features Qu San Tavern, street shops, and more; beyond a small stone bridge there is a large waterwheel, once commonly seen in the Jiangnan region but now rare—this was a water-powered mill used for processing rice cakes, which visitors can sample by adding a pack of candied floss or pickled vegetables as filling to make “cake flower,” a local delicacy. The village square also often hosts folk performances such as flower sedan rides, shadow puppet shows, and cockfighting. The village also includes the homes of Guo Xiaotian and Yang Tiexin, featuring main houses with blue-tiled roofs connected by a door in the shared wall. These have now been turned into farmhouse restaurants where visitors can enjoy local Xinchang-style rural cuisine.
Beyond Niujia Village lies the Guiyun Manor Eight Trigrams Study Room (this location was chosen as a set for "Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils," where scenes of Shaolin monks’ daily life were filmed).
There is also the territory of the Eastern Heretic Huang Yaoshi (including the Eight Trigrams Hall, Eight Trigrams Pavilion, pagoda forest, Huang Rong’s Embroidery Tower, the God of Wealth Pavilion, the Beggar Clan’s Xuanyuan Terrace, and next to the terrace, several optional paid activities such as “Flying Dagger of Li” and archery). Other attractions include Wenjun Tavern, Maple Forest Inn, and Yinggu’s Courtyard (the main house of Yinggu’s Courtyard is suspended and supported by wooden pillars, while the round bamboo hut is where Yinggu performs divination using the Eight Trigrams; in the center is an octagonal platform, and the corridor connecting the main house and the bamboo hut has pillars shaped like the Big Dipper in the sky).
The entire mountain hollow features peaks and verdant valleys, flowers, trees, bamboo, rocks, tile-roofed houses, thatched huts, small bridges, and flowing water, offering a uniquely charming atmosphere. Shaolin Village has now become a ready-made setting for period drama productions.
