Xinchang Dabei Temple

Dabei Temple (Guanyin Pavilion) was built in 1998 and completed in 1999. It consists of the Dabei Pavilion, Huazang World, Mingxin Tower, Ancestral Hall, and Chanting Hall.

The main hall, Dabei Pavilion, features majestic and exquisite architecture. Its design reflects the dignity and grace of Guanyin, blending solemnity with approachability and grandeur with delicacy. The second floor has five bays, with a total width of 18.87 meters, a total depth of 16.83 meters, and a height of 20.84 meters, covering a construction area of 961 square meters.

On the lower level, the hall enshrines a statue of Guanyin in the Free-from-Sorrow Pose, standing on a lotus pedestal, with a height of 7.5 meters; the upper level enshrines the Thousand-Handed and Thousand-Eyed Guanyin along with her 32 manifestations. The Thousand-Handed Guanyin actually has 42 hands—the central two hands are clasped in greeting, while the other 40 each hold a ritual implement, with an eye painted on the palm of each hand. Each hand is said to have 25 functions, totaling a thousand hands and a thousand eyes, symbolizing Guanyin’s boundless compassion and ability to aid all beings as needed. This form has long been favored by devotees.

In front of the Dabei Pavilion, to the south, lies the “Huazang World,” which enshrines Vairocana Guanyin. The walls are fitted with mirrors that reflect infinite Buddha images, creating a realm of three thousand Buddhas. The Huazang World was initiated by the Tang Dynasty eminent monk Fazang (634–712), based on the "Golden Lion Chapter" of the Avatamsaka Sutra. Ten mirrors are cleverly arranged to create a dazzling interplay of reflections.

In front of the Dabei Pavilion stands an elegant and classic brick-carved screen wall, 16.2 meters long and 5.8 meters high. The front side features brick carvings depicting the Eighteen Arhats paying homage to Guanyin.

To the north of the pavilion are the “Ancestral Hall” and the “Chanting Hall.” Behind the pavilion is the “Mingxin Tower,” a two-story guesthouse that accommodates distinguished guests and pilgrims from around the world.
