The Shaoxing City Moat is a national water conservancy scenic area.

Is the Shaoxing City Moat real? It connects internally with the city’s waterways and is linked all the way to the ancient Zhejiang Eastern Canal as well as Jianhu Lake.

In the past, the city moat was dug with layer upon layer of silt, boasting a long history and profound culture. The City Moat Scenic Area stretches along both banks of the 12-kilometer ancient moat, where clear waters and green spaces connect eight major scenic spots: Jishan Garden, Jian Shui Garden, Water Control Plaza, West Garden, Hundred Flowers Garden, Ying’en Gate, Heqing Garden, and Dousi Gate.

The moat has been awarded the National Best Human Settlements Practice Award and honored as a National Water Conservancy Scenic Area.
