Tiantai Ancient Road

Tiantai Ancient Road is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Zhejiang Province.

Tiantai Ancient Road is an important section of the ancient Zhejiang–Fujian trunk road. After its opening during the Southern Dynasties, it facilitated the first economic and cultural exchanges between Taizhou and Yuezhou. The ancient post road within Xinchang stretches west to Shengzhou and south to Tiantai. The best-preserved sections today include about 300 meters at Xiaoshibo Post Station, around 200 meters from Yingxian Bridge to National Highway 104, about 800 meters from Banzhu Village’s Luma Bridge to Huishiling Foot Path, around 400 meters at Huishiling, approximately 2,100 meters from Tiantai Temple to Lengshuikeng Village and Pujie Bridge, roughly 600 meters from north of Hengdu Bridge Village to south of Huangdu Bridge, and about 300 meters at Guanling Post Station. These sections of the post road are approximately 1.3 to 2.2 meters wide, mostly paved with stream pebbles laid in various patterns. Protecting these ancient post roads and stations holds significant practical and historical value for studying ancient transportation, postal services, geography, and logistics in inland and coastal areas of southeastern Zhejiang.
