Within Shantun Village lies the only provincial-level scenic area in Taizhou — Huayanshan Scenic Area. The area spans approximately 11.52 square kilometers, with mountainous terrain accounting for over 95% of the total. Situated in a subtropical monsoon climate zone, the area enjoys mild and moist weather, abundant rainfall, and moderate sunshine, with an average annual temperature of about 17°C. The region’s geological structure is dominated by faults, supplemented by gentle folds and basin formations. The exposed strata mainly consist of Jurassic volcanic rocks, while the faulted basins feature Cretaceous continental sedimentary rocks. The western edge of the scenic area reaches Dachonggang, it borders Saoqishan and Lujia Mountain to the north, Zhong’en Village to the east, and Xiduantou in Xishang Village to the south, with an average elevation between 160–590 meters. The terrain is complex, characterized by typical hilly and mountainous landforms, with main soil types including laterite, yellow earth, and sandy loam. Due to its geological setting within the first uplift belt of the Neo-Sinian system, intense magmatic activity occurred during the Mesozoic Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. The most widely exposed strata are Jurassic volcanic sedimentary rocks, resulting in numerous spectacular rift valley landscapes within the scenic area. The area is rich in vegetation, primarily featuring species such as Masson’s pine, Japanese cryptomeria, sweet gum, camphor tree, red nanmu, and mountain alder, along with a variety of ferns and grasses. Moreover, the scenic area boasts abundant wildlife, including nationally protected species such as the yellow-bellied tragopan, clouded leopard, black muntjac, and white-naped crane, as well as rare giant bats and red bats — the latter never before documented in international specimen collections. Huayanshan Scenic Area features rolling mountains and encircling streams.

Shantun Village: Shantun Village is located to the north of Toutuo Town, bordering Linhai to the north, and sits at the end of the Dianhua Line. It is the source of the Yuantong Stream. By the end of 2010, the village had a total population of over 1,297 people, covering an area of 6,904 mu, including 6,221 mu of forestland and 535 mu of arable land. The village is mainly divided into two residential areas: one at the foot of Huayanshan Scenic Area and the other in Henglü Quli inside and outside sections. Nestled against mountains and beside water, the village boasts beautiful scenery with abundant hills and waters, making it highly livable — especially renowned for the nearby provincial-level Huayanshan Scenic Area.
