Zhejiang Eastern and Southern Troops' Joint Forces Memorial Hall
The Zhejiang Eastern and Southern Troops' Joint Forces Memorial Hall is a patriotic education base.
Ancient trees flourish with verdant lushness, and the spirit of battle remains immortal; the old site takes on new life, as the revolutionary cause passes the torch from generation to generation. On April 16, the Zhejiang Eastern and Southern Troops' Joint Forces Memorial Hall was inaugurated at the original meeting site in Nonglin Village, Shangzheng Township, Huangyan District. Chen Fawen, former Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and Zhou Guohui, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, jointly unveiled the memorial hall. Huang Zhiping, Standing Committee Member of the Municipal Party Committee and Secretary of Huangyan District Committee, as well as veterans of the former Kuocang Guerrilla Unit, attended the opening ceremony.
The majestic Kuocang Mountains bear witness to the glorious achievements of the two armies' joint forces; the meandering Huangyan Stream sings the heroic anthem of revolutionary predecessors. The Zhejiang Eastern and Southern Troops' Joint Forces Memorial Hall is one of the patriotic education bases at both municipal and district levels. As early as the 1930s, the Chinese Communist Party organizations, the Red 13th Army, and the Kuocang Guerrilla Unit had launched revolutionary struggles in Shengtang, Shangzheng, Huangyan. On April 7, 1948, the “Iron Flow” Unit of Taizhou, Zhejiang Eastern, and the Kuocang Detachment of Zhejiang Southern, successfully joined forces in Shengtang. Thereafter, the two units fought side by side, strengthening revolutionary forces, expanding the new landscape of armed struggle, promoting the integration of the two guerrilla bases in Zhejiang Eastern and Southern regions, and accelerating the liberation of Huangyan and Taizhou. The construction project of the Zhejiang Eastern and Southern Troops' Joint Forces Memorial Hall commenced on June 3, 2006, with a total floor area of 1,596 square meters. The museum has collected over 300 historical photos, more than 30,000 words of textual materials, and over 30 physical objects. The exhibition content is divided into eleven sections, including Red Land, Shengtang Joint Forces, Armed Struggle, Revolutionary Martyrs, and Construction of the Old Revolutionary Base, among others. It recreates the heroic scenes of the two armies’ joint forces and provides a vivid historical panorama for promoting the revolutionary spirit.
In his speech, Zhou Guohui pointed out that the revolutionary traditions and fighting spirit of the Zhejiang Eastern and Southern troops are our precious spiritual wealth, worthy of eternal commemoration and inheritance. This year marks the 30th anniversary of reform and opening up, and Taizhou’s development stands at a new historical starting point. Facing new goals and tasks, we must take the revolutionary predecessors as role models, inherit and carry forward their noble character and lofty spirit; we must cherish all the more the current peaceful and stable political and social environment, firmly establish and implement the Scientific Outlook on Development, pay greater attention to people's livelihood, and strive to accelerate the comprehensive building of a moderately prosperous society; we must strengthen the education of ideals, beliefs, and moral values among the broad masses of cadres and the public, especially young people, so that the revolutionary spirit is passed down from generation to generation and carried forward, becoming an inexhaustible source of strength. We must transform the aspiration to serve the country and love for the hometown into concrete actions to build the “Three Taizhous,” seize opportunities, forge ahead, and strive to promote a new round of entrepreneurship and innovation in Taizhou.
