Destination Introduction: The Demon-Quelling Emperor is an honorary title bestowed upon Guan Yu, revered and worshipped by both emperors and the general public. Buddhist worship of Guan Yu began in the late Chen Dynasty during the Six Dynasties period. Taoist worship of Guan Yu seems to have started in the Northern Song Dynasty. In the 42nd year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty’s Emperor Shenzong, he was conferred the title “Demon-Quelling Emperor of the Three Realms, Divine and Mighty Saintly Emperor Guan, Who Pacifies the Heavens,” after which Guan Di Temples and Demon-Quelling Palaces spread throughout the country; The Temple of the Demon-Quelling Emperor faces east and has a two-courtyard layout, built in the Ming Dynasty and renovated in the Qing Dynasty. It features a three-bay mountain gate, a three-bay front hall, three-bay side halls on the north and south sides, and two-bay wing rooms. The rear hall has three bays, and the northern cross courtyard houses the Pujitemple, a three-courtyard complex facing south.
