Destination Introduction

Taihu No. 5 Production Team Rural Life Practice Park is located in Taihu Village, Taihu Town, Tongzhou District, situated south of the Beijing-Shenyang Expressway and 1,000 meters north of the Sixth Ring Road. Covering a total area of 4,000 acres, it is an ecotourism destination primarily focused on eco-agricultural sightseeing, folk culture park tours, and science education activities. Its main offerings include folk tourism, farmhouse stays, lodging and catering services, fruit picking, science lectures and hands-on workshops, as well as recreational fitness activities.

The surrounding area of the practice park includes a 10,000-acre rice-crab co-cultivation zone, a 10,000-acre nursery and flower base, a 5,000-acre ornamental fish farm, a 1,000-acre seed production base, and two green corridors along the Beijing-Shenyang Expressway and the Sixth Ring Road.

When night falls, the Taihu Village yangge (folk dance) team performs at the village entrance, accompanied by the sounds of drums and melodious music. Festivals are especially lively. Starting every May, the "Fruit Picking Festival" is held, featuring grapes, apples, pears, cherries, and more. There's also a "Crab-Catching Festival" offering activities such as fishing, catching fish, and trapping crabs. Both the "May Day" and "National Day" golden weeks feature performances by national-level artists. During the Spring Festival, alongside performances, there are cultural temple fairs and "fireworks shows."

The park has been designated as a youth science education base by the Tongzhou District Education Commission. It features remote teaching classrooms where science lectures, experiments, and practical activities—such as tree planting, harvesting, and management—are conducted, allowing visitors to take part directly. At Xinghu Garden, you can enjoy five-star hotel-style accommodations amidst artificial tropical garden landscapes that maintain a constant temperature year-round. While dining on delicious cuisine, visitors can also take in the scenery of southern China.

Special Notes

The park is divided into two main areas: the core zone and the radiation zone. The core zone is the Taihu No. 5 Production Team Rural Life Practice Park, which uses rural life and production from the founding of New China up to the pre-reform and opening-up period as its backdrop. Relying on pastoral landscapes, natural resources, and traditional folk culture, it aims to disseminate agricultural science knowledge and promote social practice activities, presenting vivid scenes of "ecology, folklore, science, and practice." The radiation zone includes grape-picking areas, crab-catching zones, ornamental fish farming areas, seed breeding areas, nursery landscape areas, sports and leisure areas, green food processing zones, livestock farming areas, and fishing and sightseeing zones. Visitors can enjoy performances rooted in rural folk culture, participate in crafts such as weaving and pottery-making, and fully immerse themselves in the rich local flavors—touching rural life, gaining experience, and expanding their agricultural knowledge. Stepping into a farmhouse and experiencing rural charm is another highlight of the park. Whether on regular days or holidays, you can bring your whole family to enjoy the simple hospitality of the farmhouses. Here, you can savor a variety of dishes such as cornmeal pancakes, braised small fish, wild vegetable buns, mashed millet cakes, and more.

The park has a total of 19 farmsteads. All hosts have undergone professional training in polite service, etiquette, and cooking. Each farmhouse is clean, well-equipped, and warmly hospitable. Here, you can “eat farmhouse food, sleep on a kang bed, speak the rural way, and learn farm work,” fully immersing yourself in the joy of rural living. Open year-round, the farmsteads can accommodate 700 diners and 100 overnight guests. Each offers entertainment facilities including cards, mahjong, chess, TV, and karaoke.

Entertainment: The park offers a wide range of activities, including swimming and surfing, rafting, beach volleyball, beach barbecues, children’s interactive zones, fitness activities, a science museum, gourd art exhibitions, folk culture displays, a folk performance stage, a bird garden, a sesame oil workshop, a tofu workshop, a farming area, a crab-catching pool, a fish-touching pool, donkey cart rides, scenic views of the artificial lake, fruit-picking areas, winter picking greenhouses, premium crops like grapes and pears, a horse ranch, horseback riding photo ops, archery, and target shooting.

Taihu Town: A township under the jurisdiction of Tongzhou District. It is a famous fish-and-rice producing area and a hometown of decorative glassware in the suburbs of Beijing. Established as Taihu Township in 1953, it became a commune in 1961 and was reinstated as a township in 1985. Located in the western part of the district, it is 40 kilometers from the capital airport.
