Destination Introduction: The museum building was originally constructed in the late Qing Dynasty. It faces south and has two courtyards. The main gate consists of three bays, featuring a flush-gable roof with barrel tiles and ornamental ridges. The central bay serves as the passageway, with a four-step stone stairway of the suspended belt type. There is one wing room on each side, along with one side room to the east and one to the west, all adorned with Suzhou-style paintings. To facilitate visitor access, a new north gate has been added, extending with a three-bay porch and reconstructed stone stairs, protected by stone railings and carved stone dragon pillars, with lattice panels featuring openwork vase designs. The courtyard is painted and decorated in classic Chinese style, exuding an antique charm. Among its features, the painted scroll depicting the “Eight Scenic Spots of Tongzhou” is particularly vibrant and eye-catching. In the center of the yard stands a circular flower stand encircled by bluish-grey sandstone, with a carved single-dragon design and an ancient lilac tree planted inside. When in bloom, it fills the air with a pleasant fragrance.

The museum’s permanent exhibition, “Chronicles of Tongzhou,” is divided into three sections: “Ancient Tongzhou,” “Tongzhou in Wartime,” and “Modern Tongzhou.” A wealth of artifacts and materials vividly showcase Tongzhou’s millennia-long civilization. They recount the heroic chapters written in blood by the people of Tongzhou in modern and contemporary history, as well as their remarkable achievements in socialist construction—especially the tremendous transformations that have taken place in Tongzhou since the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee.
