The Former Residence of Zhang Wenyu is located on Huaguang Lane in Chicheng Subdistrict, Chengguan Town. It was the study of Zhang Wenyu, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Works in the Ming Dynasty, during his later years. Zhang Wenyu (1578–1655), courtesy name Congzhou, alias Taisu, was a native of Maoyuan Village (now E'Yuan) in Tiantai. He was once appointed to oversee the construction of three palaces in the Forbidden City — the Huangji, Zhongji, and Taiji Halls. Later he resigned and returned to his hometown, where he authored the "Duyuting Collection."

The Former Residence of Zhang Wenyu was originally built in the late Ming Dynasty. The original architectural complex was very large, known as having "eighteen" courtyards. The existing buildings cover an area of 2,143 square meters, consisting of the Duyuting Pavilion, Laizilou Tower, and San yi Pavilion, among others. The courtyard is also adorned with rockeries, fishponds, and small bridges, making it a residential building that also features garden characteristics.

Zhang Wenyu was an important engineering and construction administrator in the Ming Dynasty. His former residence is a traditional Ming-style residential building that incorporates garden design elements. Its preservation holds significant value.
