Tomb of Li Zhiwu

The Tomb of Li Zhiwu is a municipal-level cultural heritage site in Beijing.

The Tomb of Li Zhiwu is located

at No. 12 Xihai Zi West Road, Tongzhou District, and is among the third batch of municipal-level cultural heritage protection units in Beijing.

Li Zhi (1527–1602), courtesy name Zhuowu, was a native of Quanzhou, Fujian, and a progressive thinker of the Ming Dynasty. He died in prison due to his opposition to feudal…ideology. His friend Ma Jinglun, in accordance with his will, buried him in Machang Village west of the North Gate of Tongzhou, but the tomb has since been relocated to Haizi Park. Today, a Ming Dynasty Wanli-era tomb stele remains; the front is inscribed with “Tomb of Mr. Li Zhuowu” written by Jiao ?, while the back features an epitaph for Li Zhuowu and two poems about his tomb, both written by Zhan Zhengguang.
