Lanxue Well

To the west of Songyang County town lies a circular stone-rimmed well. In the past, there was a stele beside the well inscribed with “Lanxue Spring”; to its west was the Parrot Tomb, the burial site of Zhang Yuniang and her maid Parrot; behind the tomb stands the Zhenwen Shrine, built by later generations in memory of Zhang Yuniang. Zhang Yuniang, styled Ruqiong and also known as Yizhen Jushi, came from an official family, was highly literate, and particularly excelled in poetry and ci poetry. She was compared by her contemporaries to Ban Zhao of the Han dynasty, and together with Li Qingzhao, Zhu Shuzhen, and Xue Tao, she is regarded as one of the Four Great Female Ci Poets of the Song Dynasty. She authored a volume titled *Collection of Lanxue*.
