Jieshou Village

Jieshou is located at the border between Songyang and Suichang, nestled against mountains and beside water with an excellent feng shui layout. The village lies along the northern bank of the Songyin River, stretching in a belt-like shape. It preserves a complete ancient post road, with stations, ancestral halls, schools, residences, the Yuwang Palace, arched gates, and memorial archways from the Ming and Qing dynasties lining both sides of the road. In 2006, the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government designated Jieshou Village as one of the third batch of provincial-level historical and cultural villages.

Though small, Jieshou Village is a place of outstanding people and spirit. The Liu family is the largest clan here, descended from the same lineage as Liu Ji, having migrated from Qingtian in the early Ming Dynasty. The Liu Family Ancestral Hall was built in the early Qing Dynasty, featuring intricately carved bracket arms that showcase exquisite craftsmanship. At the center of the hall’s courtyard stands a theater pavilion with upturned eaves, curved tiles, and a round arched roof, delicate and refined. Looking around the hall, red paper imprints can be seen on the wooden beams—these were once official notices celebrating the academic success of village scholars in imperial examinations, now a proud symbol of the hall. According to village elders, there used to be a magnificent theater stage outside the hall, which was demolished after the liberation.

The Yuwang Palace, originally built in the Ming Dynasty, features a unique architectural style. The existing front hall of the Yuwang Palace was rebuilt during the Qing Dynasty. The layout of the palace extends from south to north in four sections: the front hall, the first hall, the pavilion, and the main hall, covering an area of over 1,000 square meters. Regrettably, apart from the front hall, the other three sections were destroyed in a fire in 1996. Although the Jieshou Yuwang Temple Fair no longer exists, as a folk custom and cultural phenomenon, it has left a profound historical impact.
