Central Area of the Revolutionary Base in Southwestern Zhejiang (Songyang) Site
The Central Area of the Revolutionary Base in Southwestern Zhejiang (Songyang) Site is a classic red tourism destination, as well as a patriotic education base and a national defense education base.
The Central Area of the Revolutionary Base in Southwestern Zhejiang (Songyang) Site lies in the hinterland of southwestern Zhejiang, on the borders of Fujian, Zhejiang, and Jiangxi — inside Songyang County. This region is characterized by rugged mountains, including Ruoliaoxian Peak, which rises over 1,500 meters and is the highest point in Songyang, offering vistas across Song (Yang), Sui (Chang), Long (Quan), and Yun (He) counties. The area also boasts extensive primeval Rhododendron simiarum forests, considered a unique scenic wonder in East China.
During the Agrarian Revolutionary War, especially when the Red Army Advance Detachment entered southwestern Zhejiang, the region centered around Anmin, Fengping, Yuyan, and Dadongba towns in Songyang County became a hub of intense land revolution and armed struggle. As a result, numerous revolutionary sites remain here, including former residences of Red Army soldiers, sites of Party and government offices, Red Army slogans, venues where important meetings were held, and locations of major battles.
The Central Area of the Revolutionary Base in Southwestern Zhejiang (Songyang) Site is mainly concentrated in Anmin, Fengping, Yuyan, and Dadongba areas of Songyang County. An’hou Village in Anmin Township was the location of the leadership headquarters of the Revolutionary Base in Southwestern Zhejiang. It now features the “Red Ancient Stockade” gate, the Red Army Bridge, the Monument to the Revolutionary Base in Southwestern Zhejiang, the main venue of the August 1st Oath Meeting of the Red Army Advance Detachment – the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, the former offices of the political department of the Advance Detachment headquarters, the former residences of Su Yu and Liu Ying, the Red Army hospital, the Red Army kitchen, and Red Army slogans. DouTan Village in Fengping Township is the hometown of Lu Zijing. The village’s Yongfu Temple was the site where a grand welcoming assembly for the Red Army was held after Lu Zijing and others invited them into the village. Weng Guangdao’s home in Xiaoji Village was the site of the famous “Xiaoji Meeting.” Inside the village shrine, many Red Army slogans from that time still remain, and the surrounding areas preserve four old sentry posts that were used to ensure the smooth convening of the “Xiaoji Meeting.” Yuyan Village in Yuyan Town was the hometown of Ye Yi, the fourth-ranking figure of the Qing Gang. In 1930, the Qing Gang attacked the Yuyan District Office and destroyed the police substation. In May 1935, the Red Army was active here multiple times, leaving behind many slogans and making it the site of Party and government offices. The Wu Clan Ancestral Hall in Yantian Village, Dadongba Town, was the office of the Zhuxi District Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and the District Soviet Government. At the entrance of the village is the site of the celebrated “Yantian Battle,” where the Red Army Advance Detachment achieved a major victory.
This site is also recognized as a county-level legal education base for youth, a municipal-level advanced Party member education base, a provincial-level Party history education base, a provincial and municipal-level national defense education base, and a provincial and municipal-level patriotic education base. It is also one of the national red tourism attractions designated by the National Tourism Administration.
