The Former Site of the Southwest Zhejiang Revolutionary Base in Andaihou is a Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a classic red tourism destination.

In May 1935, Liu Ying and Su Yu led the Advance Division of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army to the areas of Andaihou, Fengping, and Xiaoji in our county. Using this as their base, they, along with local revolutionary youths such as Chen Fengsheng, Lu Zijing, and Chen Danshan, established the first revolutionary base in Zhejiang — the Southwest Zhejiang Guerrilla Base; founded the Southwest Zhejiang Special Committee (the predecessor of the Lishui Municipal Committee) and the Southwest Zhejiang Military Sub-district (the predecessor of the Lishui Military Sub-district); set up the Zhuxi District Committee and the first red political power within the base — the Zhuxi Soviet Government; organized the first people’s guerrilla unit in the base — the Song-Sui-Long Guerrilla Unit; and formed the first regular army unit — the 15th Detachment of the Red Army Advance Division, later renamed the 5th Column. Su Yu referred to this unit as the first people’s army formed by local leaders, Party members, and progressive youths from the Southwest Zhejiang region. The “three giants” among the peasant leaders — Chen Fengsheng, Chen Danshan, and Lu Zijing — fought bravely on this land to defend the red political power and the revolutionary base, giving their last drop of blood for the revolution. Su Yu praised them as “truly honorable representatives in the revolutionary history of Southwest Zhejiang.”

Songyang holds a very important position in the history of the Southwest Zhejiang Revolutionary Base. It was the site of the headquarters of the Red Army Advance Division, the Southwest Zhejiang Special Committee, the military sub-district, the guerrilla command, as well as the location of its administrative offices and sanatoriums. It served as a base for storing and supplying grain and weapons. Leaders of the Red Army such as Liu Ying and Su Yu lived, worked, and fought here for extended periods. To this day, Andaihou still preserves key sites of the Red Army revolutionary base, including the main assembly hall, the Red Army hospital, the Red Army bridge, the Red Army barracks, as well as the former residences of Generals Liu Ying and Su Yu, and a martyrs' cemetery. There is also a stone stele at the “Red Army Bridge” inscribed with an inscription by General Xiao Ke.

Anmin Township: Anmin is also known as the “Hometown of Ruiliao” due to the presence of the Ruiliao Primeval Forest and the book “Ruiliao Wind and Thunder,” which depicts the revolutionary history of Southwest Zhejiang. Here, you’ll find magical natural landscapes such as thousands of acres of wild Rhododendron simiarum forests, unique wildlife, and the Dajibei Waterfall Group, known as the “Number One Gully in the South of the Yangtze.” The cultural and historical sites of the red ancient village and revolutionary landmarks will surely draw you here.
