Lanxi Bridge

Lanxi Bridge is located beside Xiyang Temple in Xiyang Village, Wudabao Township. It was first built in the second year of the Wanli era during the Ming Dynasty (1574) and rebuilt in the fifty-ninth year of the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty (1794).

As the original site was within the reservoir area of the downstream “Lanxi Bridge Reservoir,” the bridge was relocated here in 1984 and restored to its original appearance. In 1997, it was listed as one of the fourth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage conservation units in Zhejiang. Despite over two hundred years of weathering, it remains well-preserved and is the earliest surviving example of its kind in the province, holding significant research value. It is also a county-level cultural heritage protection unit.

Lanxi Bridge is a large-span wooden arch bridge with cantilevered corridors, resembling a flying rainbow, ingeniously connecting Xiyang Temple with the highway.

The bridge is 48.12 meters long, 5 meters wide, and 9.4 meters above the riverbed. Its arch frame has an outward appearance of an inverted “V,” while internally it is composed of dozens of thick round logs interlocked vertically and horizontally, providing functions such as compression resistance, bending resistance, and lateral displacement resistance.

Windshields are installed on both sides in three layers, cascading down like a bridge skirt, giving it an elegant and rustic charm. The structural principle of the bridge is considered a masterpiece in the history of China’s folk bridge architecture.
