Bucan Bridge

Bucan Bridge, located at the end of the river in Yueshan Village, Jushui Township, Qingyuan County, Zhejiang Province, was originally built during the Yongle era of the Ming Dynasty. The existing structure was reconstructed in the sixth year of the Republic of China (1916) and is a large-span stone arch covered bridge. It features a semi-circular single arch, with a central span of 16.8 meters, a rise of 8 meters, an overall length of 52 meters, and a width of 5.5 meters. The bridge has eighteen covered bays, with the central bay and one bay at each end of the bridge featuring double-eaved hip-and-gable roofs. The central bay houses a shrine, above which hangs an ancient plaque inscribed with the name “Bucan Bridge.”

Fifty meters upstream from the bridge, in the middle of the riverbed, there is a large rock shaped like a toad, from which the bridge gets its name.
