The Songxi Architectural Complex is located in Baima Town, Pujiang County, dating back to the Qing Dynasty and the Republican era. As the most well-preserved and largest ancient village in central Zhejiang, Songxi Village has a history of over a thousand years. The village retains an extensive complex of historic buildings, mostly from the Qing Dynasty, covering approximately 1,560 rooms and square meters. The entire settlement was built according to the terrain, with dense clusters of ancient houses arranged in a scattered yet orderly fashion. The old streets crisscross and twist through the landscape, while the orientations and facades of the houses continuously vary with the topography, forming the locally distinctive "Ten Scenes of Songxi." The village has a strong literary tradition, having established the "Songxi Poetry Society" in the early Qing Dynasty, the "Songxi Recitation Society" from the late Qing to the Republican period, and later the "Songxi Study Society" after the reform and opening-up. Songxi Village has been designated as a National Ecological Culture Village, one of the First Batch of Traditional Chinese Ancient Villages, a China Historical and Cultural Famous Village, a China Landscape Village, and has been rated as a National 3A-level Tourist Attraction.
