Lanxi Medicine Emperor Temple

The Lanxi Medicine Emperor Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhejiang Province.

The Lanxi Medicine Emperor Temple is located in Yunshan Subdistrict, Lanxi City, dating back to the Qing Dynasty.

The temple is located at No. 23 Que Men Lane, Jiao Jiao Jian. It has three courtyards and covers an area of 1,100 square meters. At the front is a brick-carved gate tower with the inscription “Medicine Emperor Temple.” The main hall is five bays wide, and its beams, purlins, brackets, and bracket arms are all carved with abundant patterns of figures, flowers, and birds or beasts. It enshrines the ancestral deity Shennong.

According to the “Stele Inscription for the Reconstruction of the Western Pharmaceutical Guild,” erected in the 30th year of the Daoguang reign (1851 AD), as early as the 9th year of the Qianlong reign (1744 AD), local figures Xu Gong Zhi Ting and Tang Gong Zhi ? initiated the fundraising to build a temple at San Fang within the county town. Later, the Western Pharmaceutical Guild of Lanxi was also established.

On October 3, 1996, it was announced as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit of Lanxi.

On January 13, 2017, the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province designated it as part of the seventh batch of Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relic Protection Units.
