Promoted by the New Taipei City Tourism Bureau, the beauty of Wulai’s mountains and tribal culture is no longer hidden away. The long-running Wulai Fushan Tribe Leisure Tour allows travelers to experience firsthand the pristine mountain landscapes, rich ecology, and traditional culture of Fushan Tribe, turning them into treasured assets. Here, you can explore the wisdom of ancestors and nature; in the tranquil village, the air carries a relaxed vibe. Churches, Catholic chapels, and elementary schools quietly tell the stories of the Atayal people. Here, you can enjoy the simple happiness of a slow life.

The mountainous scenery of Fushan Village in Wulai District is untouched, serene, and simple, resembling a paradise on Earth. As the earliest settlement area where the Atayal people migrated to Wulai, the tribe features murals and carvings throughout, showcasing themes of Atayal life, beliefs, and culture. The stone-built Catholic church in the village is particularly distinctive. Located in the upstream water conservation area of the Nanshi River and with minimal development, Fushan Tribe is currently the most indigenous-style village among the five villages in Wulai.

This year’s “Wulai Fushan Tribe Leisure Tour” features two main themed routes. Built on years of in-depth experience accompanying the Fushan community, these itineraries take a more people-centered approach to exploring the tribe. Starting from Tunlu (Xiaben) by the Nanshi River, the one-day village tour begins with a welcome blessing ceremony. Stroll through Kalamugi, gaze at Fushan Tribe, experience the hunter’s lifestyle, and learn Atayal weaving. Of course, you’ll also walk along the Daluolan River—irrigation channel trail, greeting the fireflies in the water, seasonal flowers, and insects. The journey brings travelers into Fushan’s forests and streams to experience ecological beauty, explore Atayal traditional culture, experience tribal life, and taste local ingredients.

The Wulai Fushan Tribe Leisure Tour will offer 1,300 spots. Online registration for visits between April and June opens at 9:00 AM on Monday, March 20, 2017 (Year 106), while registration for July to September opens at 9:00 AM on Monday, May 15, 2017.
