The sixth station of the 2017 China Mountain Outdoor Fitness & Leisure Conference, spanning the whole year, will commence from November 10 to 12, 2017, in Jiangyong, the world’s only remaining place with “Nüshu culture.” The event features four competitive activities: the Mini Marathon League, an ancient post road hiking trek, cycling, and a drone photography competition. Additionally, it offers fun experience programs for the general public such as music evenings, camping gatherings, and recreational carnivals.
It is understood that the conference is jointly organized by the Mountaineering Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, the Chinese Mountaineering Association, the Hunan Provincial Sports Bureau, and the Hunan Provincial Tourism Development Commission. It is hosted by the Hunan Social Sports Guidance Service Center and the People’s Government of Jiangyong County, co-organized by the Jiangyong County Ethnic, Religious, Cultural, Sports, Radio, Television and News Publishing Bureau and the Jiangyong County National Fitness Service Center, and operated and executed by Hunan Yufeng Sports Culture Co., Ltd. Jiangyong Nüshu:
The “Nüshu Culture” Puhong Nüshu Cultural Village is a natural village in Shangjiangwei Town, Jiangyong County, Hunan Province, located southeast of the county town, 18 kilometers from the county seat. Surrounded by the Xiaoshui River on all sides, the area boasts beautiful scenery and simple folkways. It is an inverted gourd-shaped sandbank covering an area of 0.2 square kilometers and also the former residence of Nüshu inheritor Gao Yinxiian. Jiangyong Nüshu is the world’s only existing gender-specific script—a writing system used exclusively by women. Its development, inheritance, and the cultural information carried by the symbols constitute the Nüshu custom. The language recorded in Nüshu is the unique Yongming dialect spoken where it was prevalent. The Nüshu characters are diamond-shaped, with slender and uniform strokes, resembling mosquitoes or ants, hence commonly called “long-legged ant script” or “ant script” by locals. Because it was used solely by women, the academic community refers to it as "Nüshu." Chinese “Nüshu” stunned the world when it was presented at the Fourth World Conference on Women.

Jiangyong County still preserves historical and cultural relics of the Yao ethnic group, such as the “Pangu Temple,” “Pan Zhaimei Tomb,” and “Pingwang Temple,” along with magical and moving folk legends. Natural landscapes such as Wushan Mountain, Bai’e Mountain, Bai’e Cave, Shuangtang Reflecting the Moon, Mashan Mountain, Goutou Rock, Daposhui Waterfall, Golden Boy Herding, Heavenly Maiden Scattering Flowers, Three Peaks Clearing Snow, and Immortal Bridge are even more enchanting, resembling a fairyland, and are hailed as the Yao people’s “Land of Peach Blossoms.”
Shanggan Tang Ancient Village :
Shanggan Tang Ancient Village is home to over 200 well-preserved Ming and Qing dynasty houses with a history of 1,200 years. Nestled against mountains and beside water, it resembles a natural landscape painting and is currently the oldest millennium-old village discovered in Hunan Province.
Lanxi Goulan Yao Village :
Lanxi Goulan Yao Village in the Lanxi Yao Ethnic Township is filled with sights such as community altars, land shrines, dance stages, performance pavilions, and bridges and pavilions. It boasts warm and rustic customs such as the “Mud-Washing Festival” and the long-standing “Goulan Yao girls choosing their own grooms” tradition. The Lanxi Goulan Yao, along with the Fuling Yao of Yuankou Yao Ethnic Township, the Qingxi Yao of Cushijiang Town, and the Gudiao Yao, are collectively known as the “Four Major Civilian Yao Groups” of Jiangyong.
