Zhugong Rock

Zhugong Rock is located at the foot of Wuyan Mountain in Huaxi Village, Niansanli Town, Yiwu City. Though called a “rock,” it is actually a cave. Legend has it that in ancient times, a monk inscribed

the three characters “Zhuyang Cave” here, from which the site got its name. Zhugong Rock is its common name.

Zhuyang Cave is surrounded by mountains on three sides. The cave faces west and sits to the east; at the top of the cave entrance, there are stone inscriptions such as “Cloudy Mountain Stone Chamber” and “Resting on Stone and Pillow on Stream” written by Zhou Shiying, the magistrate of Yiwu during the Ming Dynasty’s Wanli era, and Yu Guoqi, the master of Zhuyang Cave, as well as “Cloud Soaring” and “Zen Rock” inscribed by Yu Enshou of Hozhou during the Qing Dynasty’s Qianlong period.

Inside the cave, there are inner caves, outer caves, side caves, and passageways—large caves enclosing small ones, all interconnected with uniquely shaped hollows. The largest cave is about 10 meters deep, 5 meters wide, and over 2 meters high, covering an area of more than 50 square meters. The interior is spacious like a hall, brightly lit, and can accommodate up to a hundred people.

Inside the cave, there are not only the Hu Gong Temple and the Guanyin Temple, but also variously shaped rocks known as stone mortars, stone pillows, stone beds, stone drums...
