Luo Binwang Park

This is a historical and cultural park dedicated to commemorating Luo Binwang, a renowned poet from Yiwu during the Tang Dynasty. The park is located on Zhongcheng Middle Road, in the area where it is said that the young Luo Binwang composed his famous "Ode to the Goose" at the age of seven near Luojiatang. At the park’s entrance stands a Tang-style memorial archway and screen wall.

The entire park draws inspiration from Luo Binwang’s life experiences, featuring natural landscapes as its main element, and includes six scenic zones: Sturdy Integrity and Hollow Modesty, Ode to the Goose, Wind-Swept Cold Waters, White Clouds Retreat, and Cloudy Woods Secluded Abode. It showcases the life of this outstanding poet — a man of exceptional talent, noble character, a bumpy official career, and a heroic yet tragic fate.

Luo Binwang (619–c. 687), courtesy name Guanguang, was a native of Wuzhou Yiwu (present-day Yiwu, Zhejiang) in the Tang Dynasty. Even in childhood, he displayed remarkable intelligence and extraordinary wit. At the age of seven, he composed the poem "Ode to the Goose" inspired by a scene before him, which quickly spread throughout his hometown and earned him a reputation as a child prodigy. In his later years, he participated in the uprising led by Xu Jingye in Yangzhou and authored the famous "Proclamation to the House of Wu."

As one of the "Four Eminent Writers of Early Tang," Luo Binwang contributed to cleansing the decadent literary trends of the Six Dynasties, reforming the ornate poetic style of early Tang, and ushering in a period of flourishing literature in the Tang Dynasty. As a result, he became an influential figure in the history of Chinese literature and has long been celebrated. He was a prolific writer, a gifted poet and author, and a minor official with great political aspirations who remained unrecognized for much of his career.
