Yiwu City Archives is recognized as a patriotism education base.

Established in 1959, Yiwu City Archives is a national first-class archives. In April 2011, its new building was completed at the core of Yiwu International Cultural Center. The new archives building covers a total floor area of 20,000 square meters with an investment of 100 million yuan. It is a public archive integrating five functions: archival storage, a patriotism education base, an archival utilization center, an information disclosure center, and an electronic document management center. In October 2011, it became a patriotism education base in Yiwu City, in November 2015 a patriotism education base in Jinhua City, and in October 2013, the Zhejiang Provincial Archives Bureau awarded it the title of "Zhejiang Provincial National Comprehensive Archives Patriotism Education Demonstration Base."

First-class archival education venue

The new building of Yiwu City Archives has a storage area of 4,000 square meters equipped with intelligent compact shelving, constant temperature and humidity control, and a fingerprint access control system, with a total storage capacity of 1 million volumes (items). The new building includes facilities such as a simultaneous interpretation auditorium, a multimedia lecture hall, a multi-functional activity room, a reading hall, a celebrity archives research room, an archives sorting room, and an archives mounting room. With its beautiful environment, cutting-edge design, comprehensive functions, and complete supporting facilities, its unique layout of "the archives within the garden and the garden within the archives" provides the public with an eco-friendly venue for learning and leisure.

To fully leverage the educational value of archives, the city archives has set up several exhibition halls: a 700-square-meter thematic exhibition hall on the first floor of the east side, a 1,000-square-meter “Legendary Yiwu” comprehensive cultural exhibition hall on the second floor, and a 300-square-meter precious archives display hall on the third floor. The comprehensive exhibition hall uses multimedia, robots, sculptures, photographs, text, audio-visual materials, and other display methods to present the over 2,000-year history of Yiwu’s civilization through the development of the city. Here, one can trace the origins of Yiwu’s history and inspire patriotic and hometown-loving sentiments.

The second-largest extracurricular classroom for students

To fully realize win-win cooperation with the education sector, the city archives and the Municipal Education Bureau have communicated extensively, jointly formulated and issued the "Implementation Plan for the Social Practice Activities of Archival Education in Primary and Secondary Schools in Yiwu," established a working leadership group, clarified the guiding principles of the activities, identified participating groups, and set out the timing, content, and specific implementation methods. This effort is dedicated to creating the second-largest extracurricular classroom for students. In recent years, long-term partnerships have been established with eight primary and secondary schools. A series of educational activities have been carried out, including “Under the Same Blue Sky,” “Know My Hometown, Love My Hometown,” and “Spring Blossoms, Welcome to the Archives.” Special activities tailored to students, such as archival exploration and junior docents, have also been introduced, making it an important window for students’ extracurricular learning.

Actively promoting collaboration between the archives and schools for mutual benefits, Yiwu City Archives has signed an agreement with Yiwu Industrial and Commercial College to serve as its training base. It hosts internships for the college’s students, arranges technical personnel to participate in the college’s educational activities, and offers specialized academic lectures and presentations to students, better fulfilling the educational function of the archives.
