Queji Bridge

Queji Bridge is a cultural relic protection unit of Jinhua City.

Queji Bridge is located on the mountainside of Xiangfeng Mountain (also known as Taigong Mountain) in Sianjie Village, Fotang Town, Yiwu City. It dates back to the first year of the Daoguang reign during the Qing Dynasty (1821) and is classified as an ancient architectural structure.

The bridge was built in October 1821 by Ding Likui. Oriented from the northeast to the southwest, it is a single-arch three-edge stone beam bridge, with an overall length of approximately 9 meters, a deck width of 1.95 meters, a clear span of 2.80 meters at the base, and a height of 3.31 meters from the deck to the water surface. The right side is equipped with a railing consisting of four sections, made up of flat stone slabs and five balusters, with both ends flaring outward in a “V” shape. The bridge body is constructed using 3 rows of 7 flat stones each and 4 transverse locking stones, arranged in a three-edge pattern using the method of longitudinal jointing and parallel laying. It is built atop a foundation of stacked block stones. Both ends of the bridge feature approach ramps paved with block stones and sand. The side beams on either side are inscribed with the characters “Queji Bridge, First Year of the Daoguang Reign, October, Auspicious Day” and “Made by Ding Likui of Sianjie, Qiting Temple,” respectively. Approximately 100 meters above the bridge on the mountain lies the tomb of Ding Likui, the builder of Queji Bridge.

It was designated as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit in April 2013, with the announcement document number being Yizhengfa [2013] No. 29, dated April 24, 2013.

Sianjie Village: Sianjie Village in Fotang Town, Yiwu City, got its name because the original village site was located on the street leading to Shuanglin and situated in front of the temple, hence the name “Sianjie” (literally “Street in Front of the Temple”).

The village has two camphor trees that are already 800 years old. Yiwu’s Fotang Town is a millennia-old ancient town with numerous Ming and Qing dynasty buildings, and Sianjie Village is a microcosm of the town’s traditional charm. Villagers say that the temple came before the village in Sianjie, and the ruins of the 1,500-year-old Shuanglin Temple lie “dormant” in a reservoir about 300 meters outside the village.
