The Huang Binhong Art Museum is a public cultural venue dedicated to commemorating Huang Binhong, a master of contemporary traditional Chinese painting born in Jinhua. It is located within Huang Binhong Park in downtown Jinhua, Zhejiang Province. Situated at the confluence of three rivers between the old and new urban areas of Wucheng, the museum covers an area of 18,000 square meters, surrounded by water on three sides and boasting pleasant scenery. The park features pavilions, terraces, and towers, as well as uniquely shaped rocks and landscapes scattered among flowers, plants, and green lawns, embodying the exquisite, quaint, and elegant charm of classical gardens in southern China. As the main structure, the Huang Binhong Art Museum is situated at the center of the park. The art museum is a traditional residential-style building that integrates architectural elements from the Huizhou and Liangzhe styles. With a construction area of 1,200 square meters, it faces south and features white walls and black tiles. It is adorned with wood carvings, brick carvings, stone carvings, tile carvings, and murals, skillfully blending traditional folk art with modern architectural space to create a structure that is both rooted in tradition and elevated beyond it. In front of the museum are two green spaces that frame a screen wall inscribed with the late master’s calligraphy reading “Artistic Vistas” (“艺林展望”). Flanking the main gate are a pair of drum-shaped stone blocks, while the door frame is inlaid with white stone and rectangular bricks from Suzhou’s imperial kiln, giving it an elegant and refined appearance. Inside the gate lies a traditional courtyard with a fish tank and potted plants, surrounded by exquisitely carved wooden window frames that are both classic and ornate. Beyond the courtyard is the grand and spacious exhibition hall. Passing through a connecting corridor leads to the rear exhibition hall, which displays the calligraphy and paintings of Master Huang Binhong. To the west is a VIP room named “Pucun Pavilion” (“朴存轩”) after Huang Binhong’s courtesy name. The room is simply and plainly furnished, with walls adorned with the master’s paintings and couplets. A small inner courtyard holds several bamboo stalks and a few stone bamboos, creating a poetic and picturesque scene as the wind rustles the leaves and casts dancing shadows. To inherit and promote Huang Binhong’s painting and calligraphy art and nurture a new generation of artists, the museum has set up two classrooms dedicated to lectures and artistic exchanges, as well as eight fully equipped guest rooms for visiting domestic and international artists, scholars, and creators engaging in lectures, exchanges, and artistic creation. Construction of the Huang Binhong Art Museum began in October 1996 and was completed in March 1999. Throughout the process, it received care and support from various sectors, especially renowned experts, scholars, public figures in the fields of painting and calligraphy, and relevant government departments.
