Former Residence of Shao Piaoping in Jinhua

The former residence of Shao Piaoping in Jinhua is a Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The former residence of Shao Piaoping, also known as the Shao Piaoping Former Residence Exhibition Hall, is located at No. 89 Fuqiao Street in the Ancient City District of Jinhua, Zhejiang Province. It was one of the important places where the renowned journalist Shao Piaoping lived and grew up in Jinhua, and is a Zhejiang Provincial-level Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The residence is divided into front and rear sections, each with three rooms, separated by a central courtyard.

The former residence of Shao Piaoping, one of the significant places where this revolutionary figure lived and grew up in Jinhua, was designated as a Provincial-level Cultural Relics Protection Unit in 2011. To better preserve and utilize this historically and culturally valuable building, the Jinhua Municipal Bureau of Cultural Relics began the overall renovation project of the residence in 2012, and the renovation was completed and passed the acceptance inspection by the Zhejiang Provincial Bureau of Cultural Relics in 2014.

In 2015, the exhibition layout of the residence was implemented to commemorate and carry forward Shao Piaoping’s patriotic spirit embodied in his famous saying, “Shouldering righteousness with iron shoulders, writing incisive articles with a sharp pen.”

On May 16, 2016, the Shao Piaoping Former Residence Exhibition Hall was officially opened to the public.

The exhibition follows the timeline of Shao Piaoping’s life, combining photographic materials and physical exhibits to recreate, as faithfully as possible, his outstanding status and remarkable contributions in the history of modern Chinese journalism, showcasing his great revolutionary spirit and patriotic sentiment reflected in his famous quote, “The pen of Shao Piaoping is mightier than an army of ten thousand.”

A total of 95 precious exhibits and photographic materials were donated by Shao Piaoping’s relatives for the exhibition.

Upon entering the residence, visitors can trace Mr. Shao Piaoping’s journey from his early days in journalism to running newspapers in the capital, with each room filled with reverence for the esteemed journalist.
