The Thirty-Three Guanyin Statues in Anji Bamboo Sea Scenic Area, also known as Anji Furong Valley, lies close to the Tianhuangping Pumped-Storage Power Station — the largest of its kind in Asia — as well as attractions like China’s Great Bamboo Sea and Shuangxi Drifting. It is located 19 kilometers from the county town and is a newly developed scenic area that integrates Buddhist culture with natural ecological features such as streams, waterfalls, rocks, lush vegetation, and wildlife. Nestled within a valley surrounded by overlapping mountain ranges, Furong Valley features its main peak, Luojia Mountain, which stands at an elevation of 1,169.6 meters. The area boasts cascading waterfalls, emerald pools, dense bamboo forests, and an untouched, fairy-tale-like atmosphere. Visiting Furong Valley offers a chance to witness a millennia-old meteorological phenomenon. The stone Buddha Temple within the valley was originally built during the Tang Dynasty and has a history of over 1,100 years, maintaining a constant flow of incense offerings. On the 19th day of the sixth lunar month, believed to be the birthday of Guanyin Bodhisattva, it is said that no matter the weather — be it drought or clear skies — a fine drizzle will fall in the valley around noon, regarded as a manifestation of the Bodhisattva’s presence. In reality, this is a unique meteorological phenomenon. As the saying goes, “A mountain need not be high to be famous if it is home to an immortal; water need not be deep to be spiritual if it holds a dragon.” Furong Valley leaves visitors with lasting memories through its millennia-old Buddhist heritage and the majestic, free-flowing Longtan Waterfall.
