Hello Kitty Heads to Mainland China: Zhejiang's First "Hello Kitty Park" to Open on New Year's Day

The mainland's first theme park centered around the world’s most popular lip-less cat, "Hello Kitty," — Hello Kitty Park — held its completion ceremony on December 28 in Anji, Zhejiang. It is expected to officially open to visitors on New Year’s Day 2015. This marks the first time the theme park has expanded outside Japan.

Hello Kitty Park was originally only located in Kyushu and Tokyo, Japan. This marks its first expansion overseas, having been meticulously developed over nearly five and a half years. According to mainland media reports, park tickets are primarily available via reservation. Over 95% of the rides and attractions have been imported from abroad. The park is divided into six themed zones: Friendship Square, Happy Harbor, Sound Village, Fairy Forest, Steam Kingdom, and Hello Kitty’s House. Each area features themed characters, landscapes, live performances, interactive experiences, and amusement rides.

Starting in December, Hello Kitty Park will hold meet-and-greet events in Hangzhou, Nanjing, and Shanghai. Ticket reservations via the official website will begin on December 5. Current tentative ticket prices are set at RMB 260 (approximately NT$1,300) for adults on weekdays and RMB 320 on holidays, while child tickets are RMB 200 on weekdays and RMB 260 on weekends. A trial opening is planned for New Year’s Day next year, along with a series of exciting celebratory events.
