China Flower and Plant Garden in Suzhou

The China Flower and Plant Garden in Suzhou is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The China Flower and Plant Garden in Suzhou is located on the north side of Taiyang Road and west side of Guangji North Road in Xiangcheng District, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province. It consists of 28 specialized flower gardens (or sections), including azalea, camellia, hibiscus, peony, cherry blossom, flowering fruit, rose, black pine, bamboo garden, and native tree species. More than 1,800 varieties and over one million rare flowers from around the world suitable for planting in Xiangcheng have been introduced. It is a comprehensive collection of global flowers, the largest “Flower Garden of the South” in East China, and a “natural oxygen bar” with a floral theme located to the north of Suzhou. The garden has been designed in accordance with local conditions—based on the varying terrain, aquatic, mesophytic, and xerophytic plants have been planted respectively, creating a richly varied landscape and achieving excellent ecological results.

The King of Flowers Section is the “flagship garden” of the Flower and Plant Garden, featuring over 320 “flower kings” aged 30 years or more. Each was painstakingly transplanted from various regions across China. Among them are an 800-year-old kerria and a 800-year-old bischofia, a 400-year-old osmanthhus, a 380-year-old eleutherococcus, and a 310-year-old crape myrtle. Last year, a “King of Crape Myrtle” over 1,000 years old was successfully transplanted and bloomed on schedule. These “kings of flowers” gather in the garden, forming a living “history of flowers.”

In the western part of the Flower and Plant Garden stands an artificial hill called Wuting Mountain, which is 30 meters high. At the summit sits a five-in-one viewing pavilion symbolizing “bumper harvests of five grains.” From the top, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire garden. The construction of Wuting Mountain fills the gap of having water but no hills in Xiangcheng District, and also provides another great attraction for visitors to the garden.

A flower landscape greenhouse exhibition hall covering 8,000 m² will be built within the Flower and Plant Garden. The exhibition hall will consist of three hemispherical greenhouse display areas, with floor areas of 5,000 m², 2,000 m², and 1,000 m² respectively. Once completed, this greenhouse complex will be the largest in East China. Plans are underway to introduce rare tropical, desert, polar alpine, and subalpine flowers from around the world, overcoming seasonal limitations on flowering and truly realizing the garden’s goal of “flowers every month” and visitors’ wish to “see flowers in all four seasons.”

Transportation: Within Suzhou, you can take Bus 805 directly to the park, or Bus 806 to the Ecological Park Farmer's Market stop to reach the scenic area. Buses 79, 82, 851, and 825 stop at Shengtian Station; walk east one stop to reach the scenic area.
