Weitang Wan'an Bridge

Wan'an Bridge is a Suzhou Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Wan'an Bridge, located in Beixuejing, Fenghuangjing Village, Weitang Town, Xiangcheng District, Suzhou, was first built in the second year of the Hongwu era of the Ming Dynasty (1369), at the same time as the Beixuejing Chenghuang Temple. Originally a wooden bridge, it was rebuilt in the 23rd year of the Republic of China (1934) as a three-span granite beam bridge. The bridge has a total length of 25 meters, with the central span’s deck measuring 6.9 meters in length. The piers on either side of the central span are inscribed with phrases such as “Official River for Releasing Living Creatures” and “Fishing Prohibited.” Two pairs of poetic couplets are preserved on both sides of the bridge, and the structure still retains elements such as boat mooring stones. The side spans each have a deck length of 5.1 meters, with the bridge being 3 meters wide and 2.9 meters high. The deck is paved with rectangular stone slabs. The entire bridge is sturdy, practical, and stands tall and graceful. It is now a municipal-level cultural heritage site of Suzhou.
