Yixi Hall Museum

The "Yixi Hall Museum" is a privately-run ancient ceramics museum jointly established by Henan Yixi Hall Cultural Investment Co., Ltd. and Changzhou Changda Construction Decoration Engineering Co., Ltd., with the care and support of the Zhouzhuang Town Government and Zhouzhuang's "Jiangnan Renjia." It was founded in 2004, with a construction area of 1,560 square meters. Pottery is an invention of our ancestors. Archaeological data shows that the history of pottery production in China dates back over 10,000 years, while porcelain production has a history of at least 3,000 years. This museum showcases the entire process of primitive pottery creation and evolution from the Yellow River, Yangtze River, and other river basins to modern ceramics throughout human history in China. There are six ceramic exhibition halls themed around prehistoric to Shang Dynasty, Spring and Autumn-Warring States, Han Dynasty, Sui-Tang, Song-Yuan, and Ming-Qing periods. Since most of the collection comes from northern China, the exhibits focus more on northern kiln systems. Whether it’s early hard pottery, painted pottery, or colored pottery, as well as southern celadon and northern white porcelain from the Tang Dynasty, or the five famous kilns of the Song Dynasty—Ru, Guan, Ge, Ding, and Jun—all are among the main exhibits. Some collections from the Jingdezhen Kiln during the Yuan and Ming periods are also key displays. However, due to China’s long history, the vast number of kiln systems, and the limited space of the museum, we deeply regret that we couldn’t fully display collections from many kiln systems. To fully reflect the innovation and wisdom of the Chinese working people and authentically present the development of ceramics in China from primitive society to the modern era, every piece in our collection has been reviewed by experts to ensure authenticity. We selected pieces from both northern and southern kiln systems to ensure comprehensiveness; we reflected customs across dynasties to show a broad scope; and we chose masterpieces from flourishing eras to highlight exquisite craftsmanship. Especially with the attention and support of experts from national cultural and museum institutions, the positioning of our exhibits has been significantly refined. In short, with a sense of responsibility to history and society, and guided by the purpose of "gathering wonders from all over the world and connecting friends from all corners," we look to the future. Using the carriers of historical civilization, we aim to showcase the diligence and wisdom of the Chinese nation and promote social harmony and progress.

Zhouzhuang Town: Zhoushi Town is located in the northeast of Kunshan, bordering Taicang City and Changshu City. It was formed by the merger of the former Zhoushi, Xinzhen, and Luyang towns, and is designated as the center of the northern urban area in the planning of the Kunshan Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government. The town covers a total area of 81.56 square kilometers, with a local resident population of 43,000 and a migrant population of 60,000.
