Shanghai customs clearance made easier as China Airlines launches off-airport check-in service

China Airlines has officially launched a check-in counter at the Kunshan Terminal in Jiangsu Province, Mainland China, becoming the first Taiwanese airline to offer off-airport check-in services for cross-strait flights. Passengers flying with China Airlines can complete procedures such as check-in, baggage check-in, and boarding pass collection at the airline’s dedicated counter at the Kunshan Terminal, then take a bus or drive themselves to Shanghai Hongqiao or Pudong Airport. Upon arrival, they can proceed through customs clearance directly and hassle-free.

Passengers who check in at the China Airlines counter at the Kunshan Terminal and are flying from Hongqiao Airport must complete the check-in procedures 3–5 hours before departure. For those departing from Pudong Airport, to align with bus schedules and 1–2 hours of travel time, check-in at the Kunshan Terminal should be completed 4–6 hours before departure. Checked baggage will be transported on behalf of passengers from the Kunshan Terminal to the designated airport, where subsequent security checks and other procedures will be completed as required.

Kunshan City is a hub for Taiwanese businesses. The Kunshan Terminal is about a 5-minute drive from the city center and was originally only open to Mainland Chinese airlines. With the opening of the China Airlines check-in counter, passengers on flights departing from Hongqiao and Pudong Airports can enjoy convenient baggage check-in and check-in services. China Airlines currently also offers off-airport check-in services at Taiwan High-Speed Rail Taoyuan Station, Hong Kong Station and Kowloon Station on the Hong Kong Airport Express, Shenzhen Shekou and Fuyong Terminals upstream of the Pearl River Delta, Dongguan Humen Terminal, Guangzhou Nansha Terminal, Macau and L9 Terminals, allowing passengers to check in and have their checked baggage collected. In the future, off-airport check-in will also be available at the Taoyuan Airport MRT urban stations.
