Jinxi Cultural Revolution Collection Exhibition Hall

The “Proletarian Cultural Revolution” took place in May 1966 and ended in October 1976. The impact of the Cultural Revolution is worthy of study and reflection by future generations. This near-frenzied movement caused the development of New China to stall and even regress by decades. The purpose of the Cultural Revolution Collection Exhibition Hall is to let the younger generation understand the “Cultural Revolution,” to allow our young and middle-aged generations to re-examine the “Cultural Revolution,” and to enable more people to analyze and study the “Cultural Revolution” with a scientific perspective in this new historical period, drawing lessons from it.

Stepping into the hall, scenes unfold before your eyes — this was the China of that time. Everywhere there were criticism meetings, struggle sessions, and denunciation rallies; all government offices, schools, factories, enterprises, and rural areas were plastered with wall posters and slogans; young students in green military uniforms, holding Little Red Books, passionately marched around, made connections, and shouted slogans.

The central area of the hall displays newspapers, trademarks, leaflets, propaganda posters, billboards, as well as various editions of Mao Zedong’s Selected Works published at the time, including quotations, poems, works by Marx, Engels, Lenin, and Stalin, and collections of Lu Xun’s sayings. There are also a colorful array of “rebel faction” leaflets, small posters, notices, bulletins, statements, appeals, and ultimatums; as well as items closely tied to daily life such as work permits, membership cards, attendance passes, honor certificates, household registration booklets, graduation diplomas, grain coupons, cloth coupons, oil coupons, meal tickets, and cigarette coupons. The hall also exhibits Mao Zedong badges, commemorative medals, scripts of revolutionary model operas, statues of revolutionary model operas — an immense collection numbering in the tens of thousands.
