The Twin Bridges are located in the town center of Zhouzhuang Ancient Town and consist of Shide Bridge and Yong’an Bridge. One bridge has a horizontal deck while the other has a vertical one; one bridge opening is square and the other is round, resembling an ancient key—hence their nickname, the Key Bridges. In 1984, Chen Yifei’s painting "Memory of Hometown" featured the Twin Bridges as the centerpiece, bringing them fame and making Zhouzhuang known worldwide. Built during the Ming Dynasty and later renovated several times, the reflection of Shide Bridge on the water’s surface forms a perfect circle with the arch itself—an elegant sight that draws photographers and art students for photos and sketches. However, during holidays, the Twin Bridges often become the most crowded spot in the ancient town, as every visitor wants to take a photo with this iconic landmark.
