Basheng Yangcheng Lake Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Bacheng Town is a Jiangnan water town with a history of over 2,500 years. It is renowned as the hometown of the famous Yangcheng Lake hairy crabs, the birthplace of Kunqu Opera, and the home of Chinese astronaut Fei Junlong. Covering an area of 157 square kilometers, it is the largest town in Kunshan City by land area, with a permanent population of about 120,000. The town administers three subdistricts—Bacheng, Shipai, and Zhengyi—as well as the Yangcheng Lake Tourism Resort and Kunshan Software Park. It also includes five urban communities and 22 administrative villages. Located on the eastern shore of Yangcheng Lake and in the northwest of Kunshan, the town borders Suzhou Industrial Park, Xiangcheng District, and Changshu City. It is 50 kilometers east of Shanghai and 25 kilometers west of Suzhou. The Shanghai-Nanjing Intercity Railway has a Yangcheng Lake Station in Bacheng, and the Sujiahang Expressway and Suzhou Outer Ring Expressway run through the town, with three expressway interchanges within its jurisdiction, making transportation very convenient.

Since the reform and opening-up, Bacheng Town has leveraged its unique geographical and environmental advantages, focusing on economic development, thoroughly implementing the Scientific Outlook on Development, liberating thinking, seizing opportunities, pioneering and innovating, and striving for progress. As a result, the town has maintained sound momentum in sustained, rapid, and healthy economic and social development. In recent years, under the correct leadership of the Kunshan Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government, the town has steadily advanced the development of characteristic economies represented by high-tech industries, software industries, leisure tourism, and modern agriculture, demonstrating a trend of fast and sound economic and social growth. In 2015, the town achieved a gross regional product of 14.56 billion yuan; public fiscal budget revenue of 1.515 billion yuan; total industrial output value of 35.46 billion yuan; and a service sector added value of 7.4 billion yuan. Tourism facilities such as Bajie Park, Water Dream Amusement Park, Crab Boat Garden, and Bacheng Old Street have been continuously improved. A rural tourism model featuring "four-season tours"—enjoying flowers in spring, playing in water in summer, tasting crabs in autumn, and health preservation in winter—has taken initial shape. The town hosts over 160 mass cultural and sports events annually, including the Yangcheng Lake Culture and Art Festival, Grape Festival, and Dongyue Temple Fair folk performances. Brand-building efforts have been solid and effective, earning the town titles such as China’s Hometown of Folk Art Calligraphy, National Health Town, National Environmentally Beautiful Town, National Garden Town, China Habitat Environment Example Award, and National Key Town.

In future work, Bacheng Town will earnestly implement the spirit of the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Third, Fourth, and Fifth Plenary Sessions of the 18th CPC Central Committee, and the “Five Firm Grasps” proposed by the Kunshan Municipal Party Committee. Firmly focusing on the theme of the 13th Five-Year Plan, the town will center on improving the quality and efficiency of development, take transformation, upgrading, and innovation-driven development as the main thread, and use reform and innovation as the driving force to build a beautiful Bacheng that enjoys stable economy, livable environment, prosperous culture, civilized society, and happy people's livelihood.

Bacheng Old Street is located south of the current Yangcheng Lake Water Park. The old street stretches over 200 meters. When strolling along the old street, start from the west end to first experience its distinctive charm—the classic Jiangnan water town ambiance emanating from its old houses.

Every autumn when Yangcheng Lake hairy crabs are in season, Bacheng becomes a popular destination for crab feasting.

Bacheng Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Kunshan City. It was established as Bacheng Township in 1949, restructured as a commune in 1958, reverted to township in 1983, and upgraded to town in 1986. Located in the northwest of the city, it is 11.3 kilometers from the urban area. The town covers an area of 53.7 square kilometers with a population of 23,000.
