Originally named “Tianqing Guan,” Tong Shen Taoist Temple is located at the west end of South Street in Jinxi Town, Kunshan City. It was first built during the Southern Song Dynasty and expanded in the Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties. The existing structures include the Hall of the Eastern Peak and the mountain gate, covering a construction area of 200 square meters. In 1991, it was listed as one of the first batch of cultural heritage protection units in Kunshan City. Tong Shen Taoist Temple originally belonged to the territory of Changzhou County and was separated from Lianchi Chan Temple in Fuchengwei, Kunshan County, by a stream, standing opposite each other to the north and south. During the Southern Song Dynasty, the Three Pure Ones Hall and Tong Shen An were built. In the Yuan Dynasty, the main mountain gate was added. By the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it already housed buildings such as the Hall of the Central Peak, the Hall of the Thunder God, the Hall of Guan Di, the Hall of the Jade Emperor, the Wenchang Pavilion, and the Doumu Pavilion. Their architectural styles and sizes were the same as those of the Xuanmiao Guan in Suzhou.
