Zhongfu Bridge

Zhongfu Bridge is a cultural relic protection unit of Suzhou City.

Zhongfu Bridge, located in Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, was built during the Ming Dynasty and is 31 meters long. It runs east-west, spanning across Shangshu River. The bridge is 31 meters in length, 3.7 meters in width, with a clear span of 9.5 meters and a height of 5.3 meters. It is constructed from granite and is a single-arch bridge. The arch is built using the method of vertically aligned, segmented, and side-by-side coursing. The bridge railings have been lost. In 2004, it was designated as part of the third batch of cultural relic protection units in Kunshan City.

Qiandeng Town: Qiandeng was formerly known as Qiandun. According to the *Songnan Zhi* (Chronicles of Songnan) by Chen Yuanmo of the Qing Dynasty, located 36 li southeast of Kunshan County in Chuan Township, there is a waterway called Qiandunpu. This is because the Songjiang River, flowing eastward from Wumen, reaches this area where there are nearly a thousand mounds on both banks of the river, hence the name Qiandun (Thousand Mounds). In the second year of the Xuantong era of the Qing Dynasty (1910), it was renamed Qiantun, with two legends regarding the origin of the name: one suggests it was a refined term used by literati, and the other claims it was due to the abundant growth of madder plants on the mounds. In April 1966, with the approval of the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Committee, it was renamed Qiandeng, the name it retains to this day.
