Xugong Bridge

Xugong Bridge is a cultural heritage protection unit of Suzhou City.

Xugong Bridge is located in Xugongqiao Village, Huaqiao Town, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province. It was designated as part of the third batch of cultural heritage protection units in Kunshan City in 2004.

The bridge was first built in the 14th year of the Jiaqing reign (1809) during the Qing Dynasty and was renovated in the 25th year of the Jiaqing reign (1820). It runs east-west, spanning over Xugongpu River. The bridge is 19.6 meters long, 2.90 meters wide, with a clear span of 7.10 meters and a height of 3.96 meters. It is a single-arch bridge with vertically linked, segmented, and parallel-laid arch stones. The north side of the bridge features intact stone pillars, long tie stones, bridge railings, and drum-shaped end stones.

Huaqiao Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Kunshan City. In 1949, it was known as Huaxi Township; in 1956, it was renamed Huaqiao Township; in 1958, it became a commune; in 1983, it reverted to township status; and in 1986, it was upgraded to a town. Located in the eastern part of the city, it is 15 kilometers from the urban center. Covering an area of 50 square kilometers, it has a population of 32,000. It is traversed by the Shanghai-Nanjing Railway, Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway, and National Highway 312. Major waterways within its boundaries include the Wusong River, Jiming River, Wapu River, and Xugong River.
