Jiangli Site

The Jiangli Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Suzhou City.

The Jiangli Site is located in Jiangli Village, Dashi, Zhangpu Town. The name “Jiangli” originated during the Wu-Yue period (907–960), when Jiang Xiyi, a Secretary Lang from the Secretariat, lived here for generations and was buried here. It is said that his ancestor was Zhuang Jiangli, the Prince of Fuyang Commandery from the Tang Dynasty — is this where the name Jiangli and the title of Tai Gong come from?

In the 32nd year of the Republic of China (1943), the Kunshan County government once sent people to excavate underground treasures, recovering numerous gold and silver utensils and cultural relics. These were loaded onto two large carts and transported to the county office, but the relics later disappeared without a trace.

In September 1976, villagers digging soil at a kiln factory east of Dongyue Temple discovered underground relics. Later, cultural relics departments from Suzhou City and Kunshan County conducted excavations, unearthing more than 40 relics from various dynasties. These included stone axes, stone adzes, stone spears, stone knives, deer antlers, deer skulls, wild boar tusks, and various pottery fragments from the late Neolithic period, all dating back over 4,000 years. There were also pottery tripods and pottery pots from the Shang, Zhou, and Ming periods, as well as hard pottery fragments with geometric patterns, dating back over 3,000 years. In addition, there were glazed pottery small dishes from the Jin Dynasty, over 2,000 years old, as well as porcelain fragments from the Six Dynasties period, over 1,600 years old, and brick carving ornaments from the Song Dynasty, about 1,000 years old. Many of these relics are now displayed in museums at various levels across Jiangsu Province.

Zhangpu Town: Located in the golden triangle between Shanghai, Suzhou, and Kunshan, Zhangpu Town is one of the important towns open to the outside world in the Yangtze River Delta. The town covers an administrative area of 116.27 square kilometers, with 1 industrial and commercial management zone, 2 subdistrict offices, 5 community neighborhood committees, and 18 administrative villages. It has a permanent population of 66,000 and a migrant population of nearly 70,000.

The town features distinct industrial characteristics and an elegant environment.
