Xia Taichang

Xia Taichang is a cultural relic protection unit of Suzhou City.

Xia Taichang is located at the southern end of Shangtang Street in Jinxi Town. Originally a silk and cloth store named “Xia Taichang,” it was built in the late Qing Dynasty. Three courtyards still remain, with street-facing buildings rented out as shops, while the rest have been converted into residences, largely preserving their original appearance.

In 2009, Xia Taichang was listed as a cultural relic protection unit of Kunshan City.

Jinxi Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Kunshan City. Its ancient name was Jinxi. It was renamed Chenmu Village during the Southern Song Dynasty, and then Chenmu Town in the Qing Dynasty. In 1958, it became Dianxi Commune, changed back to Chenmu Town in 1962, renamed Chengmao Commune in 1965, reverted to Chenmu Town in 1981, and finally renamed Jinxi Town in 1992. It is situated in the southwestern part of the city, about 23 kilometers from the urban area. Covering an area of 82.1 square kilometers, it has a population of 48,000.
