Former Residence of Chen Sancai

The Former Residence of Chen Sancai is a cultural relic protection unit of Suzhou City.

The residence of Chen Sancai is located in Dunhe Lane on Xiatang Street in Jinxi Town and was built in the late Qing Dynasty. After the liberation, the street-facing buildings of the Chen residence were used as the Chenmu Town branch of the Wu County Branch of the People's Bank of China. Currently, three main halls remain, with a total floor area of 949.03 square meters. In 2009, the Chen Sancai Residence was listed as a cultural relic protection unit of Kunshan City.

Chen Dingda (1902–1940), courtesy name Sancai, also known as Ouling, was a native of Jinxi. He graduated from Tsinghua University in Beijing. In the ninth year of the Republic of China (1920), he studied in the United States at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and earned a Bachelor of Science degree. After returning to China, he served as General Manager and Vice President of the Arctic Branch, concurrently as an Executive Director of China General Machinery Company. He also held positions such as President of the Shanghai Lianqing Society and President of the Tsinghua Alumni Association. On July 9, 1940, during the 29th year of the Republic of China, he was arrested after his involvement in an assassination attempt on the major collaborator Wang Jingwei was exposed. On October 2 of the same year, he was martyred at Yuhuatai in Nanjing.
