The Shaobo Lake Scenic Tourism Area is located within Shaobo Town, Jiangdu District, and is a provincial-level leisure and holiday resort area. It is known for its “ancient charm” and “water features,” and ranks among the top ten scenic spots in Yangzhou.

The Shaobo Lake Scenic Tourism Area is situated at the junction of the Grand Canal and Shaobo Lake, adjacent to the Gaoyou Lake Scenic Area to the north. It is composed of three parts: the ancient town of Shaobo, the canal locks, and Shaobo Lake. Its key attractions include local cuisine and the canal locks (which represent the canal culture in this tourism area). The proposed “China Water Park” is set to become another highlight in the future. The development goal of the Jiangdu District Shaobo Lake Scenic Tourism Area is, based on the actual needs of Yangzhou’s tourism industry and the resource characteristics of Shaobo Town, to build the area into an ecotourism destination primarily focused on canal, old street, and lakeside sightseeing, complemented by features such as local cuisine, canal lock tours, and visits to the China Water Park.

The ancient town of Shaobo was once a major north-south waterway hub, lined with shops and renowned as a bustling commercial center along the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. Historical figures and literati such as Emperor Yang of Sui, Emperor Qianlong, Xie An, Dong Xun, Sun Jue, and Su Shi have all left their footprints and literary works here. Today, visitors can still find historical and cultural relics such as the Gantang Temple, Douye Pavilion, Yunchuan Pavilion, the Big Wharf, the King’s Temple, the Stone Slab Street, as well as the simple and rich folk culture.

The naturally beautiful scenery of Shaobo Lake forms a stunning landscape. From the lakeside, you can enjoy misty waters, go boating, fish by the shore, savor fresh lake delicacies, watch folk dances, listen to folk songs, and appreciate traditional music, all while immersing yourself in nature. The sights of the canal locks, oilfield vistas, and poultry viewing offer additional knowledge and entertainment.

Shaobo Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Jiangdu District. In 1949, it was established as Shaobo Town, became a commune in 1959, and was re-established as a town in 1964. Located in the northern part of the district, it is 10.5 kilometers from the district government. Covering an area of 55 square kilometers with a population of 54,000, it is traversed by the Huaizheng Highway and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal runs from north to south.
