Wenchang Pavilion is not only a renowned ancient architectural structure but also an important landmark of Yangzhou city.

The pavilion stands 24.25 meters tall and is an octagonal, three-tiered brick-and-wood building. The ground floor has arched gateways on all four sides, opening onto the streets.

The second and third floors feature open windows all around, allowing visitors to enjoy panoramic views of the streetscapes both near and far when they climb up. During festive nights, the pavilion is illuminated with colorful lights that shine brightly over the streets, making it a scenic highlight in Yangzhou’s bustling downtown. Located at the intersection of Wenchang Road and Wenhe Road, it was built during the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty. Originally serving as the Kuixing Tower of the Yangzhou Prefectural School, it was thus named “Wenchang Pavilion.” This area is one of the liveliest parts of Yangzhou, staying brightly lit even at night. Wenchang Road and Wenhe Road intersect at Wenchang Pavilion. One bus stop north of the pavilion is Siwangting, and Siwangting Road to the west of Siwangting is a famous food street in Yangzhou.

Transportation

Buses 4, 5, 6, 16, 17, 18, 27, 29, 30, 32, 33, 55 (evening), 66 (evening), 303, and 315 can take you here. Additionally, the Zhenyang intercity bus, which runs from Yangzhou Pingshan Hall to Zhenjiang Jiaoshan Park, also stops at Wenchang Pavilion.
