Zhuyu Bay Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Zhuyu Bay Scenic Area is located in Wantou Town, on the northeastern outskirts of Yangzhou city. Historically known as Zhuyu Village or Zhuyu Bay, it served as the gateway to Yangzhou and was also a port for foreign exchanges during the Tang Dynasty. Emperor Yang of Sui visited Yangzhou three times, while Emperors Kangxi and Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty made six southern tours, all passing through this area. The scenic spot gained fame through poetic lines such as Wang Wei’s “From afar I know my brothers climb, with dogwood sprigs all but one” and Liu Changqing’s “Falling petals chase the stream, all bound for Zhuyu Bay.”

Zhuyu Bay Scenic Area is about 5 kilometers from downtown Yangzhou, covering an area of approximately 50 hectares. It is a national 4A-level tourist attraction. The scenic area features one of the best free-range animal viewing zones in East China, where visitors can get up close to animals such as lions, tigers, and brown bears. There is also an 8-kilometer island-loop canal scenic belt, seasonal plant forests (including cedar, persimmon trees, and bamboo), and various flower gardens. The area is named after the dogwood plant (zhuyu), an evergreen aromatic species known for its insecticidal, disinfectant, cold-dispelling, and wind-expelling properties. Woody dogwood varieties include Evodia rutaecarpa, Cornus officinalis, and Tetradium ruticarpum, all of which are well-known traditional Chinese medicinal herbs. Zhuyu Bay has become the largest dogwood viewing area in China. The scenic zone is also home to Yangzhou’s “twin city flowers”—the tree peony and herbaceous peony. In spring, visitors from all over come to enjoy the blossoms.

A variety of popular amusement facilities are scattered across the island. At the front, there are speedboats, rowboats, horseback riding, couple bikes, go-karts, bumper cars, chair swings, and a primitive playground. At the back, there is a modern urbanite quality training camp featuring activities like rock climbing, cargo nets, and high ropes courses. The scenic area also offers services such as fast food, picnic meals, and barbecues.

Buses No. 4, 12, 66, and 26 stop at Qionghua View Station; Bus No. 8 stops at Century Lianhua Station, both providing direct access to Yangzhou’s Zhuyu Bay Scenic Area.
