The Yangzhou Salt Merchants' Residences are a Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Yangzhou Salt Merchants' Residences (including the Zhou, Liao, and Jia Residences)

The Liao Residence is located at No. 118 Nanhe Xia in the downtown area. It was the home of the late Qing Dynasty salt merchant Liao Keteng, covering an area of approximately 2,000 square meters. The residence is divided into two axes, east and west. The east axis consists of a second entrance hall, a main hall, and residential buildings totaling five sections. The main hall features nanmu wood construction, with a width of five bays and a depth of seven rafters, fronted by a rolled awning. Corridors on both the east and west sides connect to the entrance hall. The west axis includes a boat-shaped hall, a flower hall, and residential buildings totaling four sections. Except for the main entrance hall and the northern garden, which have been destroyed, the entire residence remains largely intact. As a large-scale salt merchant’s residence, it can be renovated in conjunction with the Nanhe Xia Historical and Cultural Block. The Zhou Residence is located at No. 19 Qinglian Alley in the downtown area. It was the residence of the Yangzhou salt merchant Zhou Fuku, facing south with a brick-carved gate tower at the entrance. The residence is divided into traditional Chinese and Western-style sections. The Chinese section, located more to the west, includes single-story houses and a residential garden. To the east are two-story symmetrical buildings with connected corridors on both sides, forming a courtyard complex with linked floors. The buildings have single-eave, flush-gable roofs, a width of five bays, and both floors have a depth of 7 meters. To the east of the fire lane, there are also two Western-style buildings. The western-style structures and the residential garden have been remodeled since 1979. Renovation can be carried out in combination with the historical and cultural block, connecting it with nearby cultural heritage sites such as Xiaopangu.

On June 5, 2006, the Yangzhou Salt Merchants' Residences were designated as part of the sixth batch of Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Units.
