Now a municipal-level cultural relics protection unit, located at No. 14 Dongquamen in the city center. Liu Wenqi (1789–1854), from Yizheng, courtesy name Mengzhan, was a philologist in the Qing Dynasty. The residence, named “Qingxi Old House” and also known as “Liu Family Study,” is a Qing-era dwelling facing south, comprising three courtyards, with small blue-tiled flat-roofed houses. The Liu family resided here for generations. Upon entering, there is a courtyard. The first courtyard contains a hall with three bays in width, with a small pavilion to the southwest, originally inscribed “Lanxie,” which was where Liu Wenqi’s great-grandson Liu Shiping studied as a child. The second courtyard consists of three bays with two side rooms and one suite, renovated in 1945. The third courtyard has three bays with two side rooms. The western part originally had a garden with a square pavilion study, which collapsed in 1950. Most of the residence is still inhabited by descendants of the Liu family. In October 1992, the front hall and the gable pavilion were destroyed by fire and have since been rebuilt in their original layout as flat-roofed houses. It is an important historic residence within the Dongquamen historical and cultural block.
