Zha Family Residence in Wenjing Lane

This Qing Dynasty residence once belonged to lawyer Zha Fengqi. The building faces south and is divided into eastern and western sections by a fire lane, with a total floor area of 620 square meters. The eastern section has two courtyards front to back, each with three bays in width, and the first courtyard features relatively delicate doors and windows. The western section consists of four courtyards from front to back, with an ornamental gate facing east, featuring a fine water-ground brick gate tower. The first courtyard has three bays in width, the second courtyard (main hall) has four bays in width, featuring a front rolled shed with exquisitely carved beams showing a design of carp. The third and fourth courtyards both have four bays in width. There is a hexagonal gate with floral walls in the fire lane, inscribed with a stone plaque reading “Yu Bu” (余步).
